What should I pay attention to if I want to compare a BEAM vacuum system with another brand?

If you want to compare other systems and brands with BEAM, it is important to provide clarity about what is offered. The differences can be bigger than they seem. The following points should be taken into account in any case:

  • the prices are exclusive or inclusive of VAT
  • What is the capacity of the vacuum unit
  • is the vacuum unit maintenance-free like BEAM, or are new filters or dust bags frequently needed
  • the number of vacuum contacts is the same and the dust contacts are made of plastic or metal
  • is the type of hose and length the same (whether or not there is a switch on the handle)
  • the amount of tube and auxiliary materials is comparable
  • does the supplier offer standard PVC pipe, or a piping system that has been specially developed for the vacuum system such as BEAM
  • spare parts are and will remain available
  • does the supplier have its own service department
  • How many years is the warranty

Use, Operation and Maintenance

Can a vacuum cleaning system get clogged quickly?

It is not common for a central vacuum cleaning system to become clogged quickly, but when vacuuming the wrong objects, it is also not impossible that your hose or pipe system will become blocked.

Can a vacuum system clog quickly?

It is not common for a central vacuum system to clog quickly, but if you vacuum up the wrong objects, it is not impossible that your hose or piping system will become clogged.

No need to panic!

With 20 years of experience in this business, our customers have never had to do any demolition or demolition work to clear a blockage. It is crucial that the original and seamlessly connectable pipe system is used when constructing the piping system. Because we use flowing bends, you run as little risk as possible in this way and we reduce the risk of possible blockages.

Clearing a blockage

Materials needed: a normal vacuum cleaner

  1. Unpack the container of the central vacuum unit from underneath.
  2. Place the handle of the normal vacuum cleaner in one of the dust contacts of the vacuum system and close it tightly with a tea towel, for example. Start at the dust contact where the blockage is suspected to have been caused or where the suction power is the least.
  3. Now turn on the normal vacuum cleaner.
  4. Put your hand in the central unit and place your hand on the suction tube so that the normal vacuum cleaner can build up pressure. Then abruptly remove your hand so that the blockage can come loose, repeat this a few times.

Is a retractable hose suitable for vacuuming large surfaces?

A retractable hose is very flexible and lightweight, making the hose easy to carry with you. This, in combination with compact storage, makes the hose ideal for quick and small crumb jobs.

Is a pull-out hose suitable for vacuuming large areas?

A pull-out hose is very flexible and lightweight, making the hose easy to carry with you. This, in combination with the compact storage capacity, makes the hose extremely suitable for quick and small crumb jobs.

The hose also has the property of retracting during use, which is caused by the suction power of the vacuum cleaner. This makes the hose less suitable for vacuuming larger surfaces.

How does the self-cleaning filter work?

The BEAM household vacuum cleaners' patented filter automatically cleans itself after the system is switched off. The filter knocks itself clean, as it were, by a weight that is sewn into the filter, so it cannot saturate and you experience continuous suction without having to perform maintenance.

The patented filter of the domestic BEAM vacuum cleaners cleans itself automatically after the system is switched off. The filter knocks itself clean, as it were, by a weight sewn into the filter, so it cannot saturate and you experience continuous suction without having to do maintenance.

Cyclonic filtration separates large dirt and dust particles from the airflow and ends up at the bottom of the container. The finer dust particles are captured by the filter with an astonishing efficiency of 98% at 0.3 microns.

In collaboration with the makers of the GORE-TEX® material, BEAM has developed a textile in which the dust particles do not stick to the self-cleaning filter as with conventional filters.

It is therefore only necessary to empty the container from time to time.

Does a BEAM vacuum cleaner need regular maintenance?

BEAM's central vacuum cleaners are known for their virtually maintenance-free use. By default, the vacuum cleaner can be used without a vacuum cleaner bag and the vacuumed dust and dirt ends up in the collection container under the appliance. It is only necessary to empty the bucket every now and then. An average household does this approximately once or twice a year.

Each vacuum cleaner motor has two carbon brushes that last approximately 500-600 to 700-900 hours, depending on the type of vacuum cleaner. You can easily replace it yourself over time to extend the life of the engine slightly. For more information about replacing the carbon brushes, we advise you to contact us.

What should I pay attention to when installing the stretch hose kit?

For the installation of the kit with stretch hose for the (kitchen) cabinet, the required space must be taken into account. It is also important that the pipe to which the box is connected is placed in the right place. Preferably, this is when the pipe comes out of the wall just below the countertop (approx. 70-85cm), which is a good height to connect it later. When the pipe comes up from the floor, it is important that it is as far as possible against the rear wall.

Can a central vacuum cleaner system also be installed in an existing home?

It is certainly possible, but not every home is equally suitable for it. A large part of the Dutch and Belgian homes offer sufficient possibilities for getting rid of the pipe system.

Can a central vacuum system also be installed in an existing home?

It is certainly possible, but not every home lends itself equally well to it. A large proportion of Dutch and Belgian homes offer sufficient opportunities for concealing the pipe system. Spaces such as accessible pipe ducts, the meter cupboard, crawl space, knee bulkheads and, for example, the stair cupboard are used for this. Not only can vacuum contacts of the vacuum system be placed in the wall, it is also possible to place connections in the floor.

Problems and Faults

The vacuum cleaner has less suction power, what can I do?

If you feel less suction power, this can be caused by a blockage in the pipe system or because pipes do not close properly and this creates false air. The vacuum cleaner motor may also need to be replaced because it is worn out.

The vacuum cleaner has less suction power, what can I do?

The central vacuum cleaners of a BEAM vacuum system are more powerful than normal canister vacuums from brands such as Miele, Siemens, Dyson, and Philips. The dust sucked up passes through a piping system to the vacuum cleaner and is then collected in the bin under the device.

The suction power is disappointing, what could be the cause?

Cause 1: The piping system does not close properly, so that the central vacuum cleaner sucks in false air and there is no vacuum. Cause 2: The piping system is clogged, blocking the airflow and hardly any suction can be felt on one or more dust contacts. Cause 3: The vacuum cleaner motor and/or filter is worn out and needs to be replaced.

1. Have you recently started using the central vacuum system and have you experienced little to no suction power from the start?

In this case, we expect that the piping system does not close properly, with the result that a false airflow causes you to have little to no suction power. To test this, there is a simple sequence of actions to find out whether the piping system has been installed correctly.

Check the piping system

  1. Make sure that all dust contacts in the house are closed, don’t forget the baseboard vacuum cleaner in the kitchen.
  2. Now switch on the central vacuum cleaner using the switch on the device itself.
  3. After about 10 seconds, the engine should increase considerably in revs with a well-closed pipe system because no air can be sucked in.
  4. If you can clearly hear that the speed is not rising, feel for sure that there is a clear air flow at the exhaust of the appliance. If this is the case, the central vacuum cleaner is able to suck in air and does not close the piping system properly.

For a solution, contact your installer or call us on +31 88 2000 200.

2. Do you suddenly lose suction power while vacuuming and has the performance been satisfactory recently?

It is not common for a central vacuum system to clog quickly, but when vacuuming the wrong objects, it is also not impossible that your hose or piping system will become blocked. It is no reason to panic because a clog is usually quite easy to fix if you take the right actions.

To be sure whether it is really a blockage in your case, you can first check the suction power on the appliance. If this is emphatically better compared to a dust contact in the house, this may indicate a blockage in the pipe system.

Clearing a blockage

Materials needed: normal vacuum cleaner

3. Have you been using the central vacuum system for more than 5 years and have you gradually experienced less and less suction power?

If the suction power has gradually decreased, this may indicate a worn motor and filter. A worn engine usually makes more noise because internal components such as the bearings are worn out. A burnt smell around the aircraft is also a clear sign that the motor needs to be replaced.
